Anxiety before every start. Perfectionism that won't let a good day count. Stress that shows up in your stomach before it shows up in your head. When the struggle runs deeper than mental skills, therapy can help. Sessions are in person in Monument or by telehealth anywhere in Colorado.

Tri-Lakes Counseling and Peak Performance is the therapy practice of Summit Sport Psychology. We treat the mental health side of performance: anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, low mood, and the stress of a life organized around results.
Our clinicians pair established psychotherapy with a working knowledge of what athletes and high achievers deal with every day. Selection and playing time. Injury and rehab. Coaches, scholarships, and careers that can end early. We don't treat your drive as the problem. The goal is for you to keep competing hard and compete from freedom instead of fear.

Therapy is the right fit when the trouble in your sport or work is rooted in something deeper than skills. We commonly help with:

Psychologist Candidate, practicing under the supervision of Dr. Trent Claypool, Licensed Psychologist
Kaela works with athletes and high achievers who are tired of fighting their own minds. Her focus is anxiety, perfectionism, performance pressure, self-esteem, and stress that lands in the body. She isn't trying to make anyone less driven. She helps clients meet pressure with more flexibility and more trust in themselves, drawing on ACT, CBT, mindfulness, and somatic work, with hypnotherapy when it fits. Sessions are collaborative and active: part reflection, part practical skills you can use the next time it counts.
Licensed Psychologist, Founder of Summit Sport Psychology and Tri-Lakes Counseling
Trent has more than 15 years of clinical experience treating anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders, and works with athletes from youth sport through the professional level. His work draws on ACT, EMDR, IFS and ego state therapy, and biofeedback and neurofeedback for nervous system regulation. He has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels and has an extensive background in trauma recovery.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Athletes
ACT therapy Builds psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present with hard thoughts and feelings and still act on what matters to you.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR rapidly processes traumatic memories and experiences that create performance blocks or anxiety responses. Highly effective for sport-related trauma, coaching abuse, or injury-related psychological symptoms.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Ego State Therapy
IFS therapy and ego state work address the different "parts" of an athlete's psyche—the perfectionist, the competitor, the scared child—helping integrate these aspects for healthier functioning.
Biofeedback & Neurofeedback
Biofeedback and neurofeedback provide real-time physiological awareness and nervous system regulation training, particularly valuable for anxiety management and optimal performance states.
Hypnotherapy
Used when it fits, to deepen focus, calm the body, and rehearse how you want to respond under pressure.
Mindfulness and Somatic Therapies
Teaches you to notice where pressure lands in your body and settle it before it takes over.

It starts with a free 15-minute call. Tell us a little about what's going on, ask any questions you have, and we'll help you decide whether therapy with us is the right next step. You don't need to know exactly what's wrong before you call. Sorting that out is part of what the consult is for.
In crisis or experiencing thoughts of self-harm? Contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or call 991 or visit your nearest emergency room.

Both of us work with athletes and high achievers. Dr. Parentis focuses on anxiety, perfectionism, self-esteem, and stress, and she offers a sliding scale. Dr. Claypool focuses on trauma, EMDR, and biofeedback, and he is in network with Aetna and Select Health Colorado and out-of-networked preferred with Tricare. Not sure? Book a free consult with either of us and we'll point you in the right direction.
Dr. Parentis has earned her doctorate in clinical psychology and is completing the supervised postdoctoral hours Colorado requires for licensure. Dr. Claypool, a licensed psychologist, supervises her clinical work.
It's therapy delivered by clinicians who understand sport and high-pressure careers. We treat the same conditions any therapist would, with a working knowledge of training, competition, injury, and the culture around them.
Therapy treats mental health concerns such as anxiety disorders, depression, or trauma. Mental performance coaching builds skills like focus, confidence, and routines when there's no underlying condition to treat.
Our approach integrates expertise over 15 years of clinical experience with athletes combined with training and expertise in advanced therapies, allowing me to address deeper blocks that might be holding athletes back. Years of treating survivors of trauma has helped me learn what really helps the brain create new neural networks and mental systems, including flexibility with thoughts, emotions, and within the nervous system. This allows me to address all aspects of mental health.
Yes, clinical therapy services are limited to Colorado residents due to licensing requirements. I provide in-person sessions in Colorado Springs and telehealth throughout Colorado for established clients.

With your consent, I can collaborate with coaches, trainers, or other sport support staff to ensure therapeutic gains transfer effectively to your athletic environment. This integration helps create consistent support across all areas of your life.
