My clinical background treating trauma, anxiety, and nervous system dysregulation informs every aspect of my sport psychology practice. This comprehensive approach helps athletes not just perform better, but address deeper blocks that traditional mental skills training can't reach.

We help athletes at every level develop mental systems that actually hold up under pressure. Through individualized coaching that integrates HeartMath biofeedback with proven mental training techniques, you'll learn to:
True mental toughness isn't about suppressing your feelings. It's about developing a nervous system that stays regulated under pressure and building mental systems that become your default setting.
A team's true edge isn't just talent — it's trust. We help teams in Colorado Springs and beyond build cultures that win and last — not through fear or control, but through connection, leadership, and shared purpose.
Our team programs focus on:

Better culture isn't just a feel-good bonus. It's a competitive advantage.
Creating truly safe and respectful team environments requires intentional culture work that goes beyond policies and compliance. Dr. Claypool helps athletic teams and departments build cultures of sexual respect where all athletes can thrive. Drawing from his experience serving on the American College Health Association's Task Force on Sexual Assault and his work with NCAA teams, he facilitates evidence-based programs that engage athletes—particularly male athletes—as active partners in preventing sexual violence.
These programs focus on building healthy relationships, understanding consent, and developing the leadership skills needed to intervene when problematic behaviors arise. Because real change happens when teams collectively commit to respect, accountability, and creating environments where everyone belongs.
Great coaches know that strategy is only half the game. Athlete development, team performance, and culture all hinge on the emotional and mental climate you create.
Summit Sport Psychology partners with coaches to help you:
Parents know that rules and consequences are only half the equation. Child development, family harmony, and long-term success all depend on the emotional and relational foundation you build at home.

When you support the whole athlete, you unlock the whole competitor.
We believe every athlete deserves access to mental performance tools. That's why we've created a library of free resources to help you get started.
At Summit Sport Psychology, we don't just talk about mental toughness — we rebuild it from the ground up. Real mental strength isn't about pushing harder no matter what. It's about developing integrated systems that allow you to work with your mind, emotions, and nervous system as partners in your success.
Rather than hoping you'll remember to use mental skills when it matters most, we build training protocols that make optimal mental states your default setting.
My 15 years of clinical experience with trauma and nervous system regulation provides insights that pure performance coaching cannot. I can help athletes clear deeper blocks while building new skills.
The combination of HeartMath biofeedback, EMDR, and neurofeedback provides a level of depth and effectiveness that's rare in sport psychology, creating lasting change at the neural level.
Our approach is grounded in the latest research from sport psychology, neuroscience, and trauma recovery — delivered through real human connection that meets you where you are.
Beginning your mental performance journey starts with understanding where you are now and where you want to go. My process begins with a comprehensive intake session where we explore your performance history, current challenges, and specific goals. This isn't just about identifying problems — it's about understanding your unique strengths and building integrated systems upon them.
Following the intake, I provide personalized recommendations and develop a systematic training plan tailored to your needs. We identify the specific mental skills that will have the greatest impact on your performance and create training protocols to make those skills automatic.

Clinical services are therapy-based, available only to Colorado residents, and can address mental health conditions alongside performance. Performance coaching focuses specifically on optimizing mental performance and building systems, available nationally/internationally via virtual sessions.
Many athletes notice improvements in nervous system regulation within the first few sessions. However, building robust mental systems typically takes 3-6 months of consistent work, depending on your specific goals and practice consistency.
Most clients start with weekly sessions and the frequency changes based off of need, progress, and the demands of their season. Sport psychology services are still very effective at bi-weekly and longer intervals.
HeartMath is a technology that measures heart rate variability and provides real-time feedback on your nervous system's coherence. This allows you to see exactly how your mental state affects your physiology and learn to consciously shift into optimal performance states.
Our fees vary depending on the type of therapy and the duration of the session. Dr. Claypool's fees are $235 for the intake session and $185 for each follow up session. In addition, we feel passionate about keeping our services available and reserve a limited number of spots at a sliding scale fee (income dependent). If you feel you may qualify for our sliding scale please inquire about availibility.
Therapy and coaching sessions typically last for 50 minutes, but the duration may vary depending on the type of therapy and the needs of the client.
We work with kids as young as 10 to adulthood.
For therapy clients located within the state of Colorado we are in-network with Aetna and Select Health Colorado. While we don't accept other insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for portion of the session cost. If you would prefer to utilize a company to help you manage utilizing your out-of-network benefits, we recommend Thrizer. They help to verify your out-of-network benefits and submit superbills. They will manage the reimbursement process end-to-end for you to save you the insurance headache. Once you meet your deductible, you can request an instant reimbursement to skip the insurance wait or receive reimbursements in a few weeks via direct deposit. You can create an account and get started at www.thrizer.com.
